VKFF-0772 – Paddys Ranges State Park

1st August, 2021

Fist activation for 2021. It’s definitely late in the year. I’ve had a few other things going on that needed to be sorted out before being a in a position to spend weekends out playing radio.

Paddys Ranges is only an hour from home, so not sure why I hadn’t been here earlier. I had planned to also activate Maryborough Regional Park which is adjacent to Paddys. But I was a bit rusty and everything took longer than I had hoped, so just the one park.

Accessed the park via the Whipstick Track. It’d been pretty wet, so I was wondering if the track might be slippery. Happily all the tracks were well formed and graded so there was no issue with access.

A couple of hundred meters off the main road there’s an area that looks like it may have been a track or maybe the site of a building at some point. It made the perfect area to pull in and setup the 80m OCF between the trees.

Managed 29 contacts. I probably should have persevered for another 30 minutes to get to 44.

I realised that I didn’t have a pen, which would have been a problem if the tablet I use for Portalog had an issue. I also didn’t have a hat or sun cream. That wasn’t a problem this time, but would be in another month.

Hopefully it’s not 6 months before getting out again.
